Error "Failed to enumerate objects in the container" while setting permissions

My current(testing) system is Windows 8 Enterprise x64.

While performing the following sequence of steps:

  1) As an administrator, with computer management create a virtual hdd.
  2) As an administrator in the root of the drive created previously create a folder called x1;
  3) As an administrator disable permission inheritance of x1 by converting the inheried   permissions into explicit permissions;
  4) As a NON administrator user (a member of the users group) create a  folder called x11 inside x1;
  5) As and administrator go to x1 and give the users group the permission "modify"

I receive the error "Failed to enumerate objects in the container".

Can somebody explain  what is going on? Besides the  error message, if
you look at the persmissions for x11  you will see an ACE entry with a
value "Parent object" in the field Inherite from. What does it mean?

How can I avoid this situation?

regards
